Diagnostic Tests/Checkups

Diagnostic Tests/CheckupsAnnual checkups are an important part of maintaining your personal well-being. They help you chart progress on health goals and aid in determining if there are any aspects of your health that could use improvement. Abraham Medical’s providers realize the importance of preventative maintenance in preserving one’s health, and therefore encourage patients to participate in annual exams each year whether or not they notice abnormalities in their current physical state, as these exams provide opportunity for our providers to catch health issues before they become issues. Diagnostic tests help our providers verify the presence of a disease.

Whether you need one for work or your child needs one for sports, we perform comprehensive physical exams in our comfortable and relaxed environment. We provide other yearly screenings like prostate exams and non-scheduled diagnostic tests like pulmonary function tests, x-rays, aortic sonogram, and echocardiograms can be performed by our caring and knowledgeable staff.

Annual Exams/Physicals
Even if you have no immediate medical concerns, annual exams/physicals are very important for optimizing overall health. Similar to a pediatric checkup, Dr. Abraham or one of his associates will examine your blood pressure, temperature, height, weight, etc. to monitor your wellbeing. Annual exams serve as a benchmark: comparing data from past annual exams will help Dr. Abraham and the Abraham Medical providers recognize possible medical concerns based on differences in the data.

Comprehensive Physical Exams
Maintaining health is essential to overall well-being and catching health conditions and diseases early can save lives. That’s why we believe comprehensive physical exams are so important. Serving as a baseline exam, your physician will evaluate your current health and discuss your (and your family’s) medical history. Year to year, your physician will compare past physicals and note the changes that could lead to the diagnosis of a disease. If there are any abnormal observations noticed during a physical, diagnostic testing may be completed to determine if a disease is present.

Diagnostic Testing
Dr. Abraham will perform diagnostic testing to verify if a disease is present based on a patient’s symptoms or results from other medical tests. Diagnostic tests are generally performed in-office, however you may be sent for testing at a laboratory, outpatient center, or hospital.

A form of diagnostic testing, echocardiography determines the presence of cardiovascular disease.  The noninvasive machinery evaluates the heart’s activity to detect irregularities via two dimensional, ultrasonic imaging.

  • Echocardiograms – Echocardiogram tests are sound wave produced images that allow doctors to examine the beating and pumping of blood within the heart. These tests are vital in identifying abnormalities of the heart, specifically in terms of the muscle and valves.  Echocardiograms can also be used to detect heart defects in unborn children.
  • EKGs – Used to record electrical signals as they travel to your heart, electrocardiograms (EKGs) help doctors examine the patterns and heartbeats to diagnose an underlying heart condition such as arrhythmias, heart defects, coronary artery disease and heart attacks.
  • Pulmonary Function TestingPulmonary function tests (lung function tests) measure the lungs’ ability to take in and release air to circulate oxygen throughout the body. Upon diagnosis of certain lung diseases or to determine if a lung disease is present, a pulmonary function test may be performed. The type of test performed will depend on a patient’s symptoms or conditions, but most likely includes a measurement of air flow.
  • Ultrasounds – An imaging system that uses high-frequency sounds waves to create images that show the inside of the body. Most commonly ultrasounds are used to monitor a pregnant woman’s fetus or diagnose various medical conditions such as gallbladder disease, certain cancers or genital and prostate diseases.
  • Vascular Doppler Studies Vascular Doppler Studies use ultrasound waves to examine blood flow through blood vessels and diagnose conditions such as blood clots, faulty valves in veins (legs), blockages to arteries, poor blood circulation, aneurysms or other finite areas that ultrasound imaging is not able to capture.

Executive Physicals

If thorough evaluation of medical history and completion of a preliminary physical examination don’t yield conclusive results about a suspected medical condition, advanced testing with an executive physical may be necessary. Executive physicals consist of diagnostic screenings and evaluations based on the information gathered during preliminary exams to determine a patient’s medical condition.

Prostate Screening

Prostate screenings should be performed to help identify prostate cancer early and allow for the most effective treatment. A prostate-specific antigen test identifies signs of prostate cancer through a simple blood sample.

Radiology

Radiology uses imaging technology to verify and treat an illness within the body. The most common radiological imaging technologies include x-rays, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).  However, radiology is also used during minimally invasive medical procedures to provide visual guidance for surgeons.

Sport Physicals/Sports Participation Exams

Exercise plays an important role in overall health, but if a patient is not in good enough physical shape, exercise could be harmful. Sports physicals are conducted to ensure that patients are in good enough shape to exercise or play a sport. If a patient cannot pass a sports physical, Dr. Abraham can offer treatment options for impeding conditions as well as nutrition advice to get his patient started in the right direction.

Well Baby Care/Pediatric Checkups

Pediatric checkups, like annual exams, serve as a health benchmark. However, that’s not their only role. Pediatric checkups are also necessary to determine whether or not your child is growing as they should be. Dr. Abraham will examine your child and discuss any concerns with parents. He will also use pediatric checkups to ensure immunizations are administered on time.
