Show Your Skin Extra Love with May Skincare Specials

May is special to the Abraham Medical Cosmetics team for two reasons – for one, we get to celebrate mothers everywhere and the incredible job they do on a daily basis, and on top of that, we also get to celebrate healthy skin. With as much wear and tear that our skin experiences on a daily basis, what better reason to consider spending a little extra time giving it the TLC it deserves than the present? In honor of Skin Cancer Awareness Month, we have hand-selected pampering anti-aging and sun damage-reversing skincare treatments (plus a few other procedures to get you summer-ready) as our specials this month to help keep the skin looking radiant and flawless.

AMCMayLet’s start with some important facts about skin cancer and the effects of sun damage. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, skin cancer is the most common cause of cancer in the United States and projected to rise to over 144,000 new cases of melanoma (the most aggressive and deadly form of skin cancer) in 2016. With one in five Americans at risk of developing skin cancer in their lifetime, sun safety is as important as ever to help ensure that you reduce your chances of being one of the estimated 8,500 people diagnosed with skin cancer each day. There are several things you can do to reduce your skin cancer risks, but the two most vital pieces of advice we can recommend would be to limit your exposure to the sun (especially during peak sun hours when the UV rays are at their highest, between 10am-4pm) and ALWAYS wear sunscreen with at least SPF 30 for the days you’re outside for extra protection.

While not as dire as the effects skin cancer, UV light also contributes to accelerated aging and sun damage. Collagen needed to keep the skin firm and from sagging start to break down when we’re out in the sun for too long and can directly affect our appearance. Age/brown spots, wrinkles, thinned skin, and uneven skin tone are common signs of sun damage that can make us look older than we really are. This is where nonsurgical and minimally-invasive anti-aging treatments would come in handy. Two treatments that patients experiencing the effects of sun damage often choose are cosmetic injectables and chemical peels:

Cosmetic Injectables (Botox® and Xeomin®)

  • FDA approved for patients 18 years and older
  • Relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles on the upper third of the face (around/between the eyes and on the forehead)
  • Short treatment times (can be done during your lunch break)
  • Little to no required downtime after treatment
  • Results typically last four to six months (results vary by patient)
  • Safe to repeat treatments in order to maintain longer-lasting results

Chemical Peels

  • Improve overall skin tone and texture
  • Topically-applied chemical solution that removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells
  • Treat sun damage, acne, fine lines, uneven skin tone, and wrinkles
  • Customizable for each patient’s specific skin type
  • Little to no downtime required

The first full month of spring has finally graced us with its presence and the Abraham Medical Cosmetics team could not be more excited about the happenings going on this month. In addition to our newly featured skincare specials, we are hosting a very special 127 Legacy Foundation event that’s sure to be an enjoyable evening for all! 127 Legacy Foundation Dinner & Silent Auction

When: Saturday, April 30th, 2016  from 5:30pm – 8:30pm
Where: Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Snellville

Founded in 2014 by Dr. Ben Abraham, the 127 Legacy Foundation currently sponsors two orphanages on the Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Timor and regularly takes teams of volunteers to continue mission work and community outreach with local residents. This June, our team will be returning to help the Baptist Hospital in Batu to build a community medical center that will potentially serve over 300,000 people in the region.

Our dinner and silent auction event will take place in the family life center and is catered by Texas Roadhouse (with specialty coffee by Phoenix Roasters). We have a wide variety of items up for bid including lakeside and beachfront vacation stays, local tickets to Atlanta restaurants, attractions, and sporting events, and even gifts for graduates and college-bound students. This fun-filled night of exciting bidding will also have entertainment from our special guest, comedian Jody Fuller! With all proceeds from our 127 Legacy Foundation fundraising events going to support our efforts in Indonesia, we would be honored to have you join us for this wonderful evening of fellowship, good food, and fun. With summer right around the corner, now’s the time to get bathing suit ready and treat your skin to a bit of TLC before schedules get hectic. Here’s what we’re featuring this month to help:

  • Say goodbye to razor burn, ingrowns, and unwanted hairs by tossing the razors and saving time AND money with laser hair removal treatments. We currently house three different technology systems to help eliminate hair for men and women of all skin tones. Our lasers are safe and effective, so you not only get permanent results, but we’re able to customize each laser hair removal treatment specifically to meet your needs and desired results. Many patients are happy with their results after four to six treatments – even if you’re not sure how many treatments you’ll need, we will cover all of this when we meet and discuss the areas of the body you want to treat and what will work best for your skin type.
  • Botox® and Xeomin® remain some of the most popular options within the largely growing community of nonsurgical anti-aging treatments. Instead of filling wrinkles and sunken areas on the face (like facial fillers Radiesse®), Botox® and Xeomin® relax the muscles that cause wrinkles around the eyes and forehead. Results are temporary but can last four to six months in most cases; treatments can also be safely repeated as often as needed for those patients who want to keep their results maintained longer.
